The Shahnameh or Shahnama, The Epic of the Persian Kings, is a long epic poem written by the Persian poet Ferdowsi in 50,000 lines depending on the manuscript. The Shahnameh is one of the world’s longest epic poems. It tells mainly the mythical and to some extent the historical past of the Persian Empire from the creation of the world until the Muslim conquest in the seventh century (Wikipedia).

Getting back to our historical roots and socio-cultural values, especially where we are raising our children is so far from our home, Persia is so necessary to improve our sense of belonging and also still feel attached to our roots. Focusing on Persian Literature can nicely fulfill this vital emotional and mental need for us, as mindful parents who strive to establish a robust foundation for their own and their kids’ identity. Persian Cultural Identity is tightly tied into Shahname as one of the outstanding classical Persian literature.

Studying Shahname is the best way I have ever found and heard to answer this fundamental question: Who I am? Where my ancestors belong and why they are respectable for me and my children as the second generation growing out of my Iran.

Each Thursday night at 9 pm (Eastern time) we are going to gather together virtually via Zoom to study Shahname in Persian here. You are super welcome to contribute to reading, interpreting, and Q & A about the stories and the messages. Also, if you prefer just to be an (active) listener while you enjoy your tea/coffee, that would be TOTALLY fine too, Do not worry about it!

We all are going to enjoy ourselves together.

  • Every Thursday 9-10 pm (ET) or 6-7 pm (PT)
  • Meetings are online (via Zoom) and in Farsi Language.
  • It is totally understandable if you could not make every single session. Do not worry, we are going to start the next session with a short summary and you will be able to catch up.

I'm attending this class every week. A friendly environment! I believe that Hoda is a nice person and is knowledgeable in Shahnameh. We discuss about each story as well which sounds helpful to me.
